Heading: Welcome to High Wycombe

High Wycombe is an historic market town in Buckinghamshire. It is the largest town in the region and the perfect meeting place between urban and rural, old and new, east and west. The town itself has undergone a great deal of development over recent years and now has a vibrant university, a modern shopping centre, a lively market and a dynamic cultural scene including regular art, theatre and dance events.

High Wycombe is set in the picturesque landscape of The Chilterns. The name Wycombe comes from the river Wye, and the old English word for a wooded valley, combe. The town is 29 miles (47 km) west-north-west of Charing Cross in London; this figure is engraved on the Corn Market building in the centre of the town.

The town has great transport links by both road and rail and is only a short drive from Heathrow airport. It has plenty to offer businesses both large and small and has a fantastic array of sports facilities both indoor and out.

Bursting with history, which can be traced back to the Romans, the High Wycombe area has long been home to important Statesmen including Benjamin Disraeli, Lord Astor and the Rothschilds. Even today, the country retreat of the serving British Prime Minister, Chequers, is just a short drive away.

Literary greats such as John Milton, TS Elliot, Mary Shelley and Jerome K Jerome have all been inspired by the area and many film makers and TV producers have chosen it as the ideal location for their work. Many classic movies and TV programmes including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Gosford Park and The Vicar of Dibley were filmed close by and the region is also the backdrop for the long-running detective series, Midsomer Murders.
